In this special interview, National Industries magazine is pleased to host Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ghannam, Chief Executive Officer, to discuss the principal milestones of the company’s journey, its most significant achievements and its future vision for expansion and growth, through the following themes.

• At the outset, we welcome you to the pages of National Industries magazine. We would like to learn about the pioneering role of Civil Works Company in supporting our country’s efforts in the field of water plant delivery, in light of Saudi Vision 2030 led by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, may God protect him?
  Thank you for this meeting. It is our pleasure to speak about the role of Civil Works Company in supporting the water sector, which is one of the fundamental pillars for delivering the targets of Saudi Vision 2030. Since its establishment, the company has been committed to contributing effectively to the development of the Kingdom’s water infrastructure through the execution, operation and maintenance of strategic projects that include water treatment plants, transmission and distribution networks and pumping stations. We also work to adopt the latest technologies in water treatment, together with sustainable solutions that enhance the efficiency of water resources, in line with the State’s direction towards environmental sustainability and the rationalisation of water consumption.
  
  
• Throughout its long history since 1973, Civil Works Company has upheld a set of values and strategic objectives that sustain its development and growth. Could you tell us about the most prominent of these?
  Civil Works Company Limited is built on an integrated system of values, foremost among them security and safety and adherence to standards of quality and innovation, together with working in a spirit of teamwork and a focus on client satisfaction. Strategically, we concentrate on well-studied expansion, the application of the latest international standards and investment in human capital, alongside strengthening sustainability across all our projects to ensure continuous and balanced growth.
  
  
• Civil Works Company has succeeded admirably in becoming one of the largest leading companies in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of all types of water and wastewater projects, in accordance with the finest Saudi and international standards and specifications. How would you describe the story of the stages of success of this integrated system in serving this important sector?
  The company’s success is the outcome of a long journey of sustained work. It began with the execution of basic infrastructure projects and then developed to encompass the design, execution, operation and maintenance of water projects on an integrated basis, from treatment plants to reverse-osmosis desalination plants. We have relied on building cumulative expertise, adopting the latest technologies and developing national competencies, which has enabled us to deliver integrated services in accordance with the highest standards of quality, and to reach a leading position in this vital sector.

We attach great importance to qualifying national talent through specialised training programmes and professional development opportunities within the company. We also provide a range of incentives to support Saudi competencies, and we are keen to enable them to acquire the necessary expertise.

Could you tell us what most distinguishes you in this field?
  The company’s performance is distinguished by combining speed with precision in execution, while adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety. We also rely on a qualified engineering and technical team with broad experience, in addition to the use of modern technologies in project management, which reinforces client confidence and ensures results that exceed expectations.
  
  
• Could you tell us about your foremost ambitions for expansion and the pioneering steps you are taking to widen your presence across the Kingdom and the Gulf states?
  Civil Works Company Limited has maintained a firmly established presence for many years across the various regions of the Kingdom, where it has delivered, and continues to deliver, distinctive projects in the water and infrastructure sector, with a forward-looking vision for sustained expansion and for strengthening its standing. We currently hold international partnerships with global companies, working together to manage and execute projects in the water and energy fields. We also aspire to build strategic partnerships at the Gulf, Arab and international levels, and to deliver innovative solutions that contribute to developing the sector and achieving sustainability.
  
  
• Civil Works Company takes pride in the confidence of its major clients. To what extent has the company succeeded in strengthening that confidence, and what are the principal programmes you rely on to achieve it?
  We have been able to build strong relationships with our clients thanks to our commitment to quality, transparency and reliability in project execution, our reliance on advanced quality management programmes and performance monitoring systems, and our continuous communication with clients to ensure their expectations are met and their satisfaction achieved.
  
  
• Are you satisfied with the company’s performance to date and with the diversity of your work in achieving the highest level of satisfaction and confidence? And what would you say to your valued clients in this regard?
  We are proud of what has been achieved, but at the same time we regard the path towards excellence as continuous and unceasing. We assure our valued clients of our enduring commitment to providing the finest services and to developing our performance in a manner that meets their needs and strengthens their confidence in us.
  
  
• What are the most notable developments taking place at Civil Works Company under your distinguished leadership that you would like your clients to learn of through this interview, particularly given the strong relationships you maintain with many government and private entities?
  The company is currently witnessing an expansion in the execution of distinctive projects in the water and wastewater sector, in addition to the adoption of modern technical solutions in operation and maintenance. We are also working to strengthen our partnerships with government and private entities in a manner that contributes to raising project efficiency and achieving integration across services.
  
  
• How do you view the role played by the chambers of commerce and the Federation of Saudi Chambers in serving entrepreneurs and private sector leaders?
  The chambers of commerce and the Federation of Saudi Chambers play an important role in supporting the private sector by providing an environment that stimulates investment, empowering business leaders and facilitating communication between the various entities. We believe this role contributes to strengthening the growth of the national economy and to delivering development targets.
  
  
• What of your contribution to the training and development of the capabilities of Saudi youth within the company? Are there additional incentives you offer to invest in Saudi talent, and what is the foremost advice you would give them in this regard?

We also provide a range of incentives to support Saudi competencies, and we are keen to enable them to acquire the necessary expertise. We advise young people to persevere in their efforts, to develop their skills and to make the most of the opportunities available in a vital sector such as the water sector.
  
  
• What would you say about the social responsibility of private sector companies and their role in serving the community?
  We believe that social responsibility is an essential part of the role of private sector companies. Through it we seek to support community initiatives, to contribute to sustainable development and to raise awareness of the importance of preserving water resources.
  
  
• How do you see the importance of specialised water sector exhibitions and conferences inside and outside the Kingdom, and what do they add to Civil Works Company Limited?
  There is no doubt that specialised exhibitions in the water sector represent strategic platforms for exchanging expertise and keeping abreast of the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the field. We are keen to take part in such events on a continuing basis, for the opportunities they provide to build strategic partnerships and to engage with prospective clients.
